Fulbright of counsel and founding member Harry Hathaway is the 2010 chair of the Senior Lawyer Division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

In its third year, the division boasts 3,300 members—substantially larger than any other LACBA section or division.

Founded by Hathaway and two other former LACBA presidents, David Pasternak and Patricia Philips, LACBA approved its formation in April of 2007.

The central mission of the Senior Lawyer Division is to educate and preserve the history of the Los Angeles legal community and its justice system. With 120 years of legal history to preserve, the Senior Lawyer Division has assumed the responsibility of curating LACBA’s virtual museum.

Along with offering social events—such as barbecues and concerts—the group also addresses the needs of aging attorneys.

Recently, the division has hosted panels on gerontology and memory loss. The division has also presented an annual series, “Frozen in Time.” Previous programs covered the O.J. Simpson trial, the Manson family murders, as well as the Warren Commission Report. The 2010 program will cover Michael Jackson’s civil and criminal trials.

The group also helps lawyers transition their practice, a notion that many lawyers consider later in their career.

To become a member of the Senior Lawyers Division, the LACBA lawyer must have either 25 years of experience or be 55 years or older. If interested in joining, visit www.lacba.org.
